Defined by rolling hills and beautiful vistas, the northwest side of Austin was the first area of Austin to experience rapid expansion starting around 1960. This area stretches from Far West all the way to 620 and from Central Austin all way out to 620 near Lake Travis. In that range here is a lot of diversity in rental options.
In this area of town, the further from downtown Austin you go, the more you will get for your money. More space, more amenities and more upgrades and newer apartment communities. Further towards 620 you will find new resort-style apartments with amazing amenities for very reasonable price tags. Closer into to town the apartments tend to be older and more cozy with a simple courtyard and possibly a pool, but a minimal commute into town. This doesn't mean you have to sacrafice lifestyle though!
Several things have happened in Northwest Austin in the last decade. The rapid expansion of areas like Cedar Park, Leander and Lakeway have brought in tons of new restaurants, bars, entertainment options, schools and parks. The Arboretum and Lakeline Mall are just two of the many shopping and entertainment areas to enjoy. Best of all, you are as close to Lake Travis, 63 miles of beautiful, warm water!
To accomdate for that 183 is now an expansive highway and Mopac is undergoing major improvements to decrease commute times into town. The new Austin MetroRail runs from this area directly into the heart of downtown Austin so you can even leave the car behind!
Employers have flocked to this area as well to be closer to high quality schools in Austin ISD, Round Rock ISD, Leander ISD and Lakeway ISD and more affordable homes for their employees. Dell, National Instruments, Google and Texas Instruments among many others!
